What shall we do in Knysna today?
- Enjoy one of the many Lagoon Cruises into the mouth of the majestic Knysna Heads or to the Featherbed Nature Reserve. Enjoy your sunset in the company of oysters and sparkling wine.
- Embark on a Canoe Safari up the Knysna River or, alternatively, go Sea Kayaking with the experts. Beware of the tides though when embarking on this exciting activity.
- Board a Catamaran or a Yacht for a trip around the lagoon, and, weather permitting, a breathtaking journey through the Knysna Heads.
- Diving and Snorkeling is the ultimate experience below the waves, you might just find our endangered Knysna sea horse. The Paquita wreck is another popular diving spot.
- Leisure Isle is a wonderful place for a waterside picnic. You can also walk, jog or cycle and if you enjoy swimming in calmer waters then you found the right spot on Bollard Bay. Go looking for Pansy Shells in the shallow waters of the estuary around Leisure Isle. Cruise around the art galleries and restaurants on this lovely little island or just drive around and admire the beautiful gardens that this Utopia is famous for.
- Take a drive out to Belvidere, Brenton on Lake and Brenton on Sea for breathtaking views and a walk on the beach. You might be lucky enough to see some whales and dolphins. Don’t forget to buy that special candle on your way back!
- Relax over a leisurely meal at any of the Fine Restaurants at the Knysna Waterfront, Leisure Isle, The Eastern Head, Thesen Harbor Town and Knysna Main Road. Visit a Shebeen in the heart of Knysna`s main road.
- Coney Glen with its delightful rocky nooks and coves is a perfect picnic spot with BBQ facilities.
- Take a walk along the 6km beach to Buffalo Bay. Beware of strong ocean currents, if you decide to swim. We advise that you start your journey at Brenton on Sea, make your way along the beach to have breakfast at Buffalo Bay and then make your way back to Brenton. What an amazing way to experience our coastline.
- Goukamma Station, en-route to Buffalo Bay. Be transported back into time while enjoying station cuisine on an old fashioned “stoep” or under the trees.
- Visit the famous Noetzie Castles or enjoy a picnic on the very secluded beach. Please note that swimming is not allowed due to strong ocean currents and rocks.
- Enjoy riding thermals the way the fish eagles do and go Paragliding. Even beginners will find this a truly unforgettable experience. Tandem flights available.
- Knysna offers 3 stunning Golf Courses and 1 Mashie Golf Course that will test your ability as beginner or low handicapper. Get some Golf Lessons from a qualified PGA professional.
- Take time for a relaxing or not so relaxing game of pool (if the competition is tough) at any of the Sport Bars or Pubs Knysna has to offer. Live entertainment available over weekends.
- Dress up in your whites for an afternoon of Bowls at either the Knysna or Leisure Isle Bowling Clubs.
- The Knysna or Leisure Isle Tennis Club welcomes visitors to play Tennis with them or join the Knysna Marathon Club for a Run or Walk. Running along the lagoon edge at sunset has to be the ultimate.
- Fishing. Great estuary, river, rock & surf fishing on 30km`s of coastline. Don’t forget your fishing license! If fly fishing is more your thing join a qualified guide with good local knowledge to show you the best spots. If you are a novice fisherman why not book a Fishing Safari?
- Dolphin and Whale Watching are always a spectacular activity to keep the whole family entertained. So much more fun when you get to see the Knysna Heads up close & personal upon departure.
- Go Kloofing or take a Gorge Adventure. This is a must do full day experience with lunch and drinks provided.
- See the unique Knysna Sea Horse at 34`South on the Knysna Waterfront.
- Take time out for some Bird Watching. You’ll find a host of wetland birds at the turn off to Leisure Isle or visit any of the following reserves: Pledge Nature Reserve, Featherbed Nature Reserve or Steenbok Nature Reserve. Look out for our famous Knysna Loerie. Guided trips available.

- Get on your bicycle and enjoy one of our Mountain Biking routes in the forest or cycle on George Rex Drive to the Knysna Heads (the two sandstone cliffs guarding the exit of the Knysna Lagoon into the sea) or to Leisure Isle. - Don’t forget to buy your copy of the Knysna Souvenir Coffee Table Book at the Knysna Tourism office for only R30.00 each.
- Food and Craft Markets makes life so much easier with only the freshest ingredients, fast and easy food. At these gatherings you’ll find not only the widest choice, but very often the best value as well.
- Visit the Belvidere (Holy Trinity Church), St. George Church or the San Ambroso Church built with stone and timber and has lovely stained glass windows.
- Sleep on a Luxury Houseboat and be the captain of your own holiday.
- Museums. Visit either the Old Goal Museum or the Millwood House Museum on Queen Street or the Materolli Museum in Millwood. View photographs of a golden era & experience the days of the first gold rush in South-Africa.
- Visit the Millwood Gold Mine (the little ghost town north of Rheenendal) where gold was discovered in the 1880’s. You can see the museum, grave sites, mine shafts and mining equipment used. Make sure that you have enough time to enjoy Mike’s scones after an action packed mine tour.

- The scenic drive up to the Eastern Head rewards you with a breathtaking view of the lagoon and the majestic Heads especially if you follow the path to the View Point.
- The Seven Passes route (original road) linking Knysna and George takes you into the quiet beauty of the original forest and across Thomas Bain bridges.
- For those who love ‘material things’ with a distinctive design style and original ideas embark on the Rheenendal Ramble for an art experience you’ll never forget. Great scenic route!!
- For those in love with Quad Bikes, make use of the many tracks available if you have your own bike, or book an adventure with an adventure company.
- Abseil or Rap Jump from the Knysna heads if you feel in need of some adrenalin to spice up your life.
